In the meantime, the nose ring became popular amongst young girls - I remember a period of about 5 years between 1999-2004 where it felt like every third girl had the same piercing. Since then, I believe the trend has faded - I don't see it on many people anymore...but I still continue to wear mine simply because I like it. I never did it as a fashion statement or to be proud of a crowd, I genuinely liked the look of a nose ring!
Recently, a few people have asked when I'm going to take it out? Take it out? Why??? I asked. I've never really thought about if/when I'll take it out. Over the past 15 years I feel like it has become a natural part of my face that I don't even notice anymore. Well, here are some responses I received when I asked why:
1. It's a "young" look - meaning I'm almost 27, it's about time I grow up and take the face accessory off.
2. It looks like you're stuck in the last decade - meaning no one really has a nose ring anymore, let go of the trend and move on. Mind you, I don't wear it for the trend, I wear it because I like it and now I'm very used to it!
3. It's not professional - those conservative, corporate types wouldn't appreciate it and when I start having more face-to-face meetings with clients it may be perceived in a negative way. Keep in mind though, that I've gone through job interviews and have met some fairly high profile people who haven't seemed to care (that I know of).
4. It's very Indian - not that there's anything wrong with looking Indian, but if that's not the look you're going for, you should take it out. Or so I've been told.
5. It's not very classy - no justification for that one. It was just a statement.
So I've thought about this for some time now, and while I am not totally ready to let go of it, I've decided to give the bare-nose a try:
It was REALLY weird to look at myself at first. It felt like something was missing and I was caught off-guard every time I looked in the mirror. But as the days went by I got more and more used it. I have to admit, I'm now actually liking the look with no nose ring. It feels a little more grown-up and professional, it also shows more of ME. MY face. I know it sounds silly that a such a small stud can make a difference, but it really does! Although...not one person that I interact with on a daily basis noticed the change until I pointed it out. I guess it just became such a normal thing to look at when people saw my face. Anyway, the point is that I kinda like my face without the piercing.
BUT like I said earlier, I'm not totally ready to let go of it, so I wear it at night to make sure the hole doesn't close any time soon.
So here are my questions to you:
Do you have a nose ring/face peircing? If yes, how long have you had it? Do you intend to take it out? Why? When?
What do you think of nose rings?
Do you agree with any of the arguments against the piercing that I mentioned above?
Do you agree that it's time I take it out?
I'm looking forward to hearing your feedback :)

Leave it in, you look amazing.
It suits you, it's not unprofessional, and since when was it a bad thing to look young or Indian?
Anyone telling you otherwise is threatened by you.
I wear a nose ring too and have received similar comments. The only one that actually had me thinking was the one that it isn't professional. I have a corporate job and even worked in the court for some time and no one has ever told me that it isn't professional! But I still feel as if they're judging me lol so I took it off for a week or so and immediately went back to it. It's a part of ME I guess and even I'm not completely willing to let go!
I've switched to a REALLY small silver one with no stud since then. You have to get VERY close to my face to actually see it! This way, it's not "in your face" and people don't really notice it's even there. So, I get to keep my piercing :)
I love it on you! It totally suits you. I think nose rings are considered okay now in the professional world. I say rock it!
You're stunning either way!
I think you should do what makes you happy, and if that is rocking the nose ring, do it! Screw what society says. You definately rock the look, and like some commenters said, the corporate world is getting more liberal with piercings. I work for a corporate company and I have 7 tattoos :)
I think it looks great on you and I think not everyone can pull it off but you definitely can. I never thought that it would look unprofessional especially since it's so subtle.
I have a nose ring and I love it. I am 39 years old and have no intention of taking it out anytime soon. I've had it for 20 years. I have removed all of my other body piercing but I think a nose ring is just so pretty and feminine. It hasn't slowed me down professionally at all.
It's such a personal decision, I can't believe how many people have given you there unsolicited opinions!
to be honest, i think you look better without it. i do agree that it doesnt look professional or classy.
sorry if you think im being too harsh.
xx
It is totally beautiful. I regret not keeping mine when I got my nose pierced about 5 yrs back.
I am not sure if there is an 'age' appropriate for a nose ring/pin. I am surprised people bring that up.
The professional world is slowly becoming more multicultural and hence there is more acceptance of what is not the norm. As for your nose pin, it is quite classy and you should keep it.
Thanks for all your feedback guys! I appreciate your honesty on this one. I guess if my boss doesn't have a problem with the nose ring I shouldn't be so worried about professionalism, right?
I'm very indecisive about this right now...but it's nice to know I have both options :)
You're very pretty! I think the nose ring makes you unique, just an outward expression of you being an individual!
It's up to you but you said you had it since you were 12, thats a long time! Could be time for a change, you look great with or without :o)
I think it looks really good. I'm 32 and thinking about getting one for the first time! Nose rings are small enough that they are cute and not ugly and distracting.

Thanks for your feedback ladies...I still have it in. I don't think I'll fully take it out until I am personally ready to let go. I'm just not there yet!
I wouldn't like a nose ring for me, but I like it on you :) I think you should take it out when you feel comfortable (if you ever do).
I took my belly button barbell out last year because I felt too old to have one and no one ever saw it anyway and it felt weird with my high waisted pencil skirts...I just grew out of it I guess!
Yay!..your beautiful and it looks verryy cute..I to have one and its just a very cute look
I LOVE nose rings, I just got my nose pierced & I don't intend to take it out anytime soon cause I love it. screw what anyone else thinks. I'm with you, on the fact that I pierced my nose for me, because I like it & if it's not a fad, that's even better because why would you wanna be like anyone else? I don't think they're too unprofessional (I worried about this, too, before I got mine done). I also think it looks great on you & even though nose rings aren't "classy", in the traditional sense, a small gem or diamond is. I've seen tons of people at places where I've worked with nose rings & even medical assistants at my daughters' doctor's office have them! also, what's wrong with the Indian meaning behind nose rings? NOTHING! although you can always wear a retainer to work, if any employer ever had a problem with it ")
