This is a great concept. I have one friend who is constantly on her iPhone. I try my best to not check it so often but when I leave my iPhone on the table, it's because I want to take a photo of what I am eating. I have to try this with my friends one day.

I believe it's okay to check if someone called but I don't think you should be having a full out text messaging or tweet conversation while you are at the table with your friends. If I have to check my phone, I usually excuse myself.

This is so hilarious because of its honesty! I cannot stand when I go out with anyone - be it my fiance, my best friend, or a co worker - and they are all on their phones. I want to scream, "Hello, I'm sitting right in front of you!" but then I would fear I may look desperate. It really is sad though. The world is becoming so disconnected which is an irony considering all of these things are supposed to keep us more connected.

Yikes. I didn't realize this was an issue for me as well until I lost my phone for a day. My husband and I went out to dinner and he had his phone. He's also tweeting/blogging all the time so he was checking it constantly & I was left with looking like a person who was being ignored during her date. It felt awful. I had a change to look around and see that at least 75% of the restaurant diners were on a device. We've got to try to disconnect, especially at dinner. I'm going to try this. thanks for your post.

That is a fantastic idea! i find that too even at work when clients come in and we greet them they are so caught up in their phone that they don't answer and then they complain that they don't get help from us.
